Jamie Carragher criticises Petr Cech

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher was not pleased with the performance of goalkeeper Petr Cech during Arsenal's 3-1 Premier League defeat at Manchester City. The former Czech international produced a couple of top-notch saves to keep the scores at bay, but he was still criticised for the way he conceded the first goal of the game.

City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne opened the scoring with a left-footed strike from outside the box – which Cech could only get his fingertips to – but Carragher believes the 35-year-old should have done much better in goal. Cech earned the reputation of being one of the Premier League's greatest shot-stoppers during his time at Chelsea, but Carragher believes his reflexes have waned since his switch to north London, he said, "Petr Cech should save that. I think he is one of the great goalkeepers in the Premier League, but now he's just a good goalkeeper."

Jamie Carragher compares Alvaro Morata to former Chelsea star

Liverpool legend-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher has likened Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata to Fernando Torres as he has a similar kind of playing style.

The former Real Madrid man has quickly become a fan favourite at Chelsea after contributing six goals and two assists in his opening six league games.

As a result, the Spaniard has received widespread praise from former players and pundits with Carragher comparing him to ex-Liverpool and Chelsea star Fernando. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Watching that, it reminded me of Torres, they’re a similar type of build and they both burst past people. He could have scored a 25-yarder, but when I see a finish like that I automatically think that’s top class, very few players can produce that skill. That is better than scoring a worldie or an overhead kick – that’s top class."

Jamie Carragher doubts whether Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will play in Liverpool's midfield

Jamie Carragher believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may struggle to command a position in Liverpool's midfield this season.

The England international joined the Reds on transfer deadline day after they finalised an initial £35m with league rivals Arsenal. The 24-year-old was used as a regular wing-back in the final months of his Gunners stay, and it was one of his prime reasons for pursuing a fresh challenge away as he wanted to establish himself in central midfield.

Richard Keys says he disagrees with Reds legend Jamie Carragher on his opinion on the Everton summer signings.

Ronald Koeman has signed Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Cuco Martina, Wayne Rooney, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez. Yet Carragher claimed none of the new players were good enough for the Red part of the Merseyside.

The retired Senegalese forward did not really impress in Anfield as his performances could not live up to his price tag of €10 million and during the season of 2004-05, he was offloaded to Bolton Wanderers on a loan deal where he actually did make significantly better performances and eventually opted to sign a permanent deal with Bolton.

Liverpool are reportedly frustrated by the slow transfer process that has delayed them from landing their major transfer targets this summer. The deal for centre half Virgil van Dijk should have been long completed but it was poorly handled so the interest cooled. There have been reports that the player strongly wants Anfield so the move could still happen but it remains complicated for now.

Jamie Carragher urges Liverpool to focus on quality over quantity this summer

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp should place his emphasis on recruiting top-class players rather than hoping to add squad depth.

The Reds managed to clinch their Champions League return after they held on tough competition from Arsenal to finish fourth in the league standings. Despite this, the Merseyside outfit looked short during the backend of last season with Klopp being forced to name a substitutes’ bench with an average age of 19 during the defeat to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher remains fearful for the transfer ambitions of the club this summer.

Jurgen Klopp has taken a personal interest in recruitment procedures this season as the German is seeking the best talents to join the ranks at Anfield.
