SOUTHGATE PERFECT FOR INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL - CARRAGHER

Jamie Carragher believes that England manager Gareth Southgate is perfectly suited for international football and the Three Lions rather than club football. Liverpool legend Jamie Carraghertold Sky Sports that Southgate is ideal for international football and that the fact that the 50-year-old was not linked to the Everton and Tottenham Hotspur jobs highlight his statement.

Everton and Spurs are two of the biggest clubs in England and they were both without a manager this summer. Southgate was not linked with either of the two clubs when they both struggled to appoint a manager.

Merseyside giants Everton were linked with a lot of managers in their bid to name a replacement forCarlo Ancelotti who left the Toffees to return to Real Madrid this summer. After many weeks of searching for a replacement, Everton appointed Spanish tactician Rafael Benitez as their new manager despite his affiliation withMerseyside rivals Liverpool. For Tottenham Hotspur, the North London club appointed ex-Wolves and Valencia manager NunoEspirito Santo as manager a few weeks ago after a long period without one. Spurs were without a permanent manager for months on the back of Jose Mourinho being sacked in April.

Southgate has impressed Jamie Carragher and the other ex-England internationals with the job he has done during his time as the Three Lions boss. The former Middlesbrough led England to fourth place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia. The Three Lions lost to Croatia in the semi-finals before they were beaten by Belgium in the third/fourth place playoff.

Ex-Middlesbroughmanager Southgate took it a step further when he led his team to the final at the just concluded Euro 2020 tournament. Southgate and England sufferedheartbreak against eventual champions Italy after losing on penalties. The two teams settled for a 1-1 draw at the end of 120 minutes before Italy won 3-2 during the penalty shootout that followed.
