WHY LIVERPOOL WON'T RETAIN LEAGUE TITLE

Liverpool legend Jaime Carragher is certain that his former club won't retain the Premier League title if they don't sign a new central defender in this January transfer window. According to him, Liverpool will find it hard to retain the Premier League title they won at a canter last season. The Reds finished 18 points above nearest challengers Manchester City at the end of the campaign. It was the first league title for Liverpool in three decades and the first league title in the Premier League era.

Jamie Carragher talked about Liverpool and their title credentials this season while he was on Sky Sports. He talked about his former team extensively in the aftermath of the disappointing loss toSouthampton in their last league game at the St. Mary's Stadium last week Monday.

Jaime Carragher said he didn't see Liverpool winning the league after the injury blow suffered by Dutchman Virgil Van Dijk in October 2020 and he has maintained that position as the ex-England international centre back does not see how the Reds will pull the league title off without a new central defender following the injuries to key central defenders Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk. Jaime Carragher was surprised about the recent poor form shown by the Reds who were beaten 1-0 at Southampton courtesy the goal from their former striker, Danny Ings in the opening minutes of the Premier League match. Liverpool have now gone three games without a win in the league.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also touched on the use of midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the Liverpool defence and what it would do to the confidence of young central defenders Nathaniel Philip and Rhys Williams. In the absence of Van Dijk and Gomez, Fabinho, Henderson, Williams and Philip have played in the Liverpool defence.
