Toure knows he has to fill in for Jamie Carragher

New Liverpool signing Kolo Toure has stated that it is an honor for him to be signed by such a great as a replacement for one of its legends in the form of Jamie Carragher.

The former Manchester City and Arsenal centre back joined the club on a free transfer from City and sees this next step in his career as an unbelievable opportunity. And speaking of the retiring Carragher, Toure mentioned that the club needed someone to replace him with and it is a huge honor for him to be chosen as the man to do the task that was done by the former England man with such class and consistency for such a long period.

Toure went on to add that Jamie Carragher had been a fantastic player for England and a brilliant servant for Liverpool as well. He admitted that he has been a great leader and although it will not be easy, he will try his absolute best to fill in for the legendary Kop idol.

Toure spent much of his time at Manchester City on the bench, failing to nail down a first team spot amidst the presence of Belgian international Vincent Kompany, England man Joleon Lescott and Serbian defender Matija Nastasic. He spent some time suspended as well after failing a dope test and according to the Ivory Coast international, it was only right for him to move on from Manchester as he seeks first team games.

He admitted that he was flattered by the interest of Liverpool at first and when he had a detailed discussion with manager Brendan Rodgers who pointed out what he wants from him and required him to fill void vacated by Jamie Carragher who retired at the end of last season, there was absolutely no way that he could decline.
