NOT CONTENDERS

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that he thinks hospital cannot be considered as title contenders just yet.

The North London outfit are currently top of the table after a great start to the season. Even though they lost in the opening match of the campaign against Aston Villa, they have since gone on a run of unbeaten matches to go two points clear at the top of the table. Their recent victory came in the 4-1 match against Norwich. Even though this was a respectable opponent, Carragher thinks that the real test for Arsenal will come in the matches against Chelsea and Manchester United.

Arsenal have so far faced Tottenham as the only noteworthy opposition, but even they finished outside the top four last season. The coming months will be providing much sterner tests for Arsenal, who will welcome back a number of key players back to the squad. The likes of Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski have been struggling with fitness for the last few months, but they will be available for selection in a short time. Carragher said after the Norwich match that if Arsenal had produced the same performance in the top of the table clash against Chelsea, then they would have been rightly considered as title challengers.

"We're sometimes scared to say it about Arsenal. If this was Man United or Chelsea or Man City then we'd all say they can win the league, but because they've gone so long without winning a trophy or challenging for the championship then we get a little bit scared of backing them for the title. But the form that they're in makes them look like the most impressive team in the Premier League at the moment," said Carragher. Arsenal have faced tough opposition in Europe and they have beaten the likes of Napoli.
