Jamie Carragher says that Arsenal should consider strengthening the club

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says that Arsenal should consider strengthening the club immensely in the summer if they are to maintain this good run of form.

After managing to win the FA Cup last season, the club seem to be undergoing a sense of rejuvenation. For large periods of this league campaign, Arsenal were unable to come near the top four. However, a spectacular run of form since February has seen them move into second spot and possibly challenge for the title. There will be coming up against Chelsea in a mammoth clash at the Emirates stadium this weekend.

After having failed to beat José Mourinho in the last 12 games, Arsene Wenger is in need of a desperate victory against the Portuguese in order to provide some confidence within the players. More than the confidence, Carragher says that a victory will help Arsenal to seriously start thinking about the title from next campaign onwards. Carragher has identified four players who will immensely strengthen the team. They are Paul Pogba of Juventus, Karim Benzema of Real Madrid, Godin of Atletico Madrid, and Petr Cech from Chelsea. These players will strengthen the key areas where Arsenal have struggled according to Carragher.

"This is the summer when Arsenal must go for it and make the big additions that will stop them being nearly-men.Wenger still needs to buy a new No 1 if they are to be title challengers. Petr Cech would be an ideal candidate to come in.Why doesn’t he go for Paul Pogba? If they needed to sign Ozil two years ago, their need to sign Pogba this summer is even greater. Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid is 29 and at the peak of his powers. He would be ideal at the heart of the defence,” said Carragher.
