Jamie Carragher compares Alvaro Morata to former Chelsea star

Liverpool legend-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher has likened Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata to Fernando Torres as he has a similar kind of playing style.

The former Real Madrid man has quickly become a fan favourite at Chelsea after contributing six goals and two assists in his opening six league games.

As a result, the Spaniard has received widespread praise from former players and pundits with Carragher comparing him to ex-Liverpool and Chelsea star Fernando. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "Watching that, it reminded me of Torres, they’re a similar type of build and they both burst past people. He could have scored a 25-yarder, but when I see a finish like that I automatically think that’s top class, very few players can produce that skill. That is better than scoring a worldie or an overhead kick – that’s top class."

While Torres was a huge hit at Liverpool, he could not quite establish himself at Chelsea, where his performance was underwhelming for his £50m price tag. The Spaniard joined the Blues from Liverpool for a then-club-record in 2011, but he managed just 20 league goals in over 100 outings.

Morata was often in the shadows of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema during his time at Real Madrid, but the move to Stamford Bridge has benefited him as he is regarded as the undisputed first-choice for the centre-forward position.

The two-time Champions League winner recently notched his first-ever Blues hat-trick at Stoke City, and he could have easily added more to his tally, had he been more clinical. There were initial doubts over whether Morata would suit the English game, but his ability to get behind the opposition defenders has been the main attribute to his style of play. Morata is expected to feature from the off when the Blues take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday night.
