Jamie Carragher Brands Ibrahimovic As the Best Signing of the Season

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reckons that Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been the player of the season so far.

The Swedish striker came to Old Trafford on free transfer from Paris St Germain, and he has set the goal charts on fire. Even though he is costing the club a reported £ 260,000 per week in terms of wages, Carragher reckons that Ibrahimovic being signed on a free transfer makes them incredible value for money indeed. The 35-year-old has netted 16 goals in all competitions for the club, who have paid around £ 5 million wages so far.

One of the major disadvantages of Ibrahimovic is that he is an incredibly short term signing, at best being able to offer around two years to the club. So far, the club have paid out just over £300,000 for each of his goals. Yet, it has helped Manchester United move up the table. The importance of the striker was clearly evident during the months of October and November when the club were struggling for form.

It coincided with a time when Ibrahimovic went on a goal drought that stretched beyond eight matches. Carragher says that Ibrahimovic is undoubtedly one of the best forwards in the penalty box and the United are benefiting from the presence of the big Swede.

"In a year in which we saw the transfer record broken, the best acquisition is the one that arrived at Manchester United for no fee.I felt critics looked at Ibrahimovic, when he was dominating in Serie A and Ligue 1, with an element of suspicion because he didn’t do it in the Champions League.Zlatan has shown us why he has won 29 major honours - including 11 league titles - during his glittering career," said Carragher in his half-term report of the Premier league 2016-17 season.
