CARRAGHER DISPUTES WIJNALDUM EXIT CLAIMS

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has disputed the exit claims from Dutchman GeorginioWijnaldum who left the club to join French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG) earlier this summer.

Wijnaldum spoke to English publication The Times about what led to his exit from Liverpool. According to him, he didn’t feel the love from outside the Melwood training ground. The Dutch international said he was loved by his manager and teammates at Liverpool but he didn't feel the love from elsewhere.

The Dutch player dispelled rumoursthat he left Liverpool for more money. He also talked about the tons of abuse received on social media.

In his response to Wijnaldum, ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher disputed his statement that he left Liverpool because he didn't feel the love from outside the players and coaching staff at the club. Jamie Carragher went on to say that the Dutch national team player left the Merseyside club to earn more money elsewhere and that the midfielder should not use social media as an excuse.

Liverpool offered Wijnaldum the chance to extend his stay via a new contract but he opted to leave the club at the end of his contract. He was a major part of the Liverpool midfield during his time at the club.

Reds fans would fondly remember him for his two-goal performance as Liverpool thrashed Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg of their semi-final clash in the Champions League during the 2018/19 season. Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona took a 3-0 lead from the home leg before they capitulated in the second leg thanks to the form of Wijnaldum and his teammates.

Wijnaldum went on to win the Champions League title with Liverpool via the final win over Tottenham Hotspur on the back of the 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona in the semis. The Dutchman also played a big role in ending the Reds’ long title drought in the penultimate league season.
