CARRA BACKS EVERTON

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says that Arsenal are no longer the favourites to finish in the top four after their 3-0 defeat against Everton. Merseyside clubs have been performing extremely well this season.

After several years of failure to challenge for the title, Liverpool are doing exactly that this campaign. Everton have finished in the top four once, but it was a freak season according to many. However, this campaign, Everton have been up there with some of the best clubs under the management of Roberto Martinez.

They once again cemented this position after a 3-0 win over Arsenal, who were initially the favourites to finish in the top four. Arsene Wenger’s men challenged for the title for long parts of the campaign, but they have slipped from being top of the table in January to being in a position whereby their top four place is under threat. Despite having much easier run-in than Everton in the remaining five matches of the season, Carragher says that it is no longer possible to consider Arsenal as the favourites for the top four.

Everton have matches against the likes of Manchester City in the season, but they will be at Goodison Park, where they have been tremendously strong.

"We knew the Everton game was always going to be a tough game. You can easily lose there - anyone can - because it's a tough place to go. It's the way they lost that's worrying. You watch that Arsenal team now and when I think of an Arsene Wenger team I think of power and pace. Watching this team I look at it and think it's weak and slow. That would be worrying. No matter who you play, if you haven't got that pace and strength in your team mentally and physically,” said Carragher.
