Roman Abramovich have no other option but to sack manager José Mourinho

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich have no other option but to sack manager José Mourinho after their latest defeat in the Premier League, which left them just one point above the relegation zone, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

The future of Mourinho has been under speculation for the past few weeks even though the club gave him a vote of confidence for the first time. Chelsea have never treated their managers in such a manner. They have provided Mourinho with the best possible time to turn things around, but Chelsea’s form has never been so bad in the club’s recent history.

Gone is the talk of a title challenge or even a top four challenge since Chelsea are being viewed as contenders for the relegation battle. This is certainly surprising considering that the club won the league title only seven months ago by a considerable margin of eight points. Chelsea had won the league with three games to spare in the 2014-15 season.Abramovich has been known to be fire friendly in the past, but the club were left facing with the prospect of relegation if they did not act according to Carragher. Mourinho’s statement after the 2-1 defeat against Leicester that he felt betrayed by the players did not help matters either.

"Everyone in football knows if it's between the players and the manager, they will fire the manager because it's very difficult to get rid of a whole group of players. He did a fantastic job and maybe didn't get the recognition he deserved really, because Chelsea had been out of the running for the title for a few years before he came back. This season, with the way that he manages, he's very demanding of the players, he doesn't accept defeat, he's hung them out to dry publicly,” said Carragher.
