Carragher Warns England Of Suarez Threat

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has revealed that England need to stop Luis Suarez from doing his tricks when England take on Uruguay in the second group match of the World Cup 2014. The Liverpool striker is expected to return to Uruguay starting line-up after missing their opening match against Costa Rica due to a knee injury. He underwent surgery on his troublesome knee only a few weeks ago, but he is expected to return back to the starting line-up against England. After having played with him before retiring, Carragher is someone who knows the 27-year-old extremely well.

He says that the biggest test England will face against Uruguay will be to stop Suarez. After having lost their opening match against Italy, pressure is on England to get three points against Uruguay. Similarly, Uruguay are also under pressure after losing their opening match against Costa Rica. A win for either team will be good enough to carry their hopes into the final group match. Should England lose this encounter, then they would be on the verge of being knocked out of the World Cup. Carragher says that Suarez will be trying to get past the last defender at every opportunity.

However, the former England international does not expect the 27-year-old to be at full fitness. “You wouldn't expect him to be 100 per cent fit but Luis Suarez is different from others players in world football - he's a phenomenon. It is one of the few times I can remember him being injured as he's played the last four summers on the bounce. I'm not expecting a 100 per cent fit Luis Suarez, but not far from it. He's a winner and I don't think he will be going into the game worrying about his injury,” said the former Liverpool man.
